Noe Knows Best?: Seventh Son Review
This week HFF got the chance to check out The Seventh Son with Jeff Bridges and Juliana Moore. Ben Barnes plays the main character, Tom Ward. I will say that I already had a bias opinion going into this movie for 3 reasons. One, I am a huge fan of the lord of the rings and hobbit trilogy and this movie seemed to have dragons and spells. Two, we got the chance to see this in IMAX and 3D which made it a whole lot better. The third and last reason is I love red heads. Juliana Moore is a witch with dark red hair. There was a ton of fighting, almost throughout the whole movie. What amazed me the most was the graphics and visuals. Many times I flinched and jumped in my seat because there was a dragon breathing fire onto the screen. There is a lot of pop up scary moments so it is fun to watch.
The storyline in this film was not great at all. The writers did a bad job of giving a back story to this whole world of monsters. The main character is a scrawny kid that can’t get it together to be able to fulfill his purpose. And the climax scene is somewhat of a disappointment. It was very comical with Jeff Bridges being very nonchalant about the seventh son’s character development. It does have a feel of vengeance because this is a medieval story of a crazy ex-girlfriend. I believe that is the best way to summarize the movie. Over all I give this movie a 6 and that is due to the well spent money on graphics. A younger crowd might enjoy this a lot more than an adult crowd. The only reason I would go watch it again is if I had to take my little brothers to the movies. It did not disappoint terribly but it didn’t make me sob like the last hobbit movie, and I will leave it at that.
