Well Wishes is a film that takes us on the life-changing journey of Miles (Shane Callahan) a man who recently lost his job and his truly awful fiance and is now struggling for meaning with his life. One day while looking into a fountain and seeing all the coins inside gets an idea for his future. He will basically go around to all the wishing wells in town and collect their change, thus making enough money to sustain himself and life a fairly carefree lifestyle. He brings on board his best friend Jack (Cullen Moss) and the two start rolling in the dough. Eventually, their business grows which requires them to bring on a third employee so Miles suggests a nice homeless man he met to help Jack juggle the finances in the office while he continures to travel the country collecting more coins from fountains. One the way he runs into a mysterious woman (Anna Stromberg) with a shady past who once again will make him this twice about his life and it;s direction.
Initially, this film seemed like it had the making to be a rather cute fun love story, but upon watching it there were just too many flaws I had a hard time overlooking. For one, I kept waiting for someone to come out and throw miles out of the fountains where he is collecting all this change from, but it never seems to happen. I can tell you from my experience in college that businesses generally frown upon fountain diving, so when he is in there splashing around gleefully and never drawing any attention to himself I have to throw down a red card. Also, never mind the fact that he is basically stealing from the business who own these fountains. This may not seem like a big deal, but as you watch the film and see the issues popping up with theft and things that he is adding to it just doesn't mesh up well. Also, Miles character as a whole kinda sucks. back home when his friend finds a way to set them on the straight and narrow path and a way to expand the business and hires new employees (which they can now afford), he loses his mind and fires everyone because well reasons and then he promptly quits the company. Miles you suck. Also your "love story" is weak and typical of a billion other lame romances you have seen. You know where this is going and how it will end so why are we even bothering with this one.
Overall, we scored Well Wishes with a C+ because there were a couple decent laughs in there and despite some of the script, it was still watchable. I would recommend waiting for this to hit Netflix or something though.
