If Sci-Fi is your thing then SXSW has brought you the film FIrst Light. This story revolves around a high school senior named Alex Lainey (Played by Stephanie Scott) who after an encounter with some mysterious lights begins to have supernatural and dangerous powers. When things get too much she turns to her friend Sean Terrel (played by Theodore Pellerin) to help her escape the government authorities hunting her down.

I want to be upfront and say I like sci-fi movies. This movie however just felt like a boring mess to me. I don't know if it was the script of the flow of the story, but I couldn't get myself into this movie. It felt like a knock-off other so many other films we have seen like project almanac meets the midnight special. It was just not hitting any special notes for me.

The cast did an alright job with the acting, but the story just felt weak and it was hard to stay focused while watching this. My mind kept wandering to other things because I could not stay into what was on the screen in front of me. If you are looking for a solid sci-fi film there have already been a few really good ones this year that you could spend your time on and sadly this one was a big miss for me. I scored First Light we a D. It just needed to go back to the drawing board a big and come out swinging with a stronger story and a better ending. I don't wanna give anything away but it wasn't much of a surprise or a good conclusion for me.

Hopefully, I am not raining on anyone's parade here, but I would have to wait for Netflix for this one.
